Matcha is the focal point of Japanese Tea Culture, the fine powder is made by grinding green tea leaves.Ā Only the finest, young and shade grown gyokuro tea leaves are used to create matcha.Ā The leaves are plucked and laid out flat to dry.Ā Veins are removed from the leaves, now called tencha, are carefully ground into granite mills until they become the highly sought after powder.Ā Making matcha is an extremely easy process,Ā add 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of matcha powder to bowl or cup, pour hot water over powder and stir till frothy, sit back and enjoy your taste of Kyoto Japan
